The fact that the city of Ogden is not in the Ogden Valley--separated from it by the Wasatch range which lies between the two--can be a source of confusion for first-time visitors. Snowbasin and Powder Mountain dominate the landscape on opposite sides of the Ogden Valley, with Pineview Reservoir and Wolf Mountain between them.
Powder Mountain has limited on-mountain lodging, and there is currently none at Snowbasin. Lodging choices ranging from condos and homes, to B&Bs and lodges, are available in the Valley towns of Eden, Liberty, and Huntsville. The majority of vacation rental properties lie within Wolf Creek Utah Resort, in Eden. Since most visitors opt to visit more than one ski area, booking a stay in the Valley allows for easy access to skiing/boarding with the added convenience of having restaurants and shopping close by. The Powder Mountain shuttle stops at most of the Eden lodging properties and at a central parking area in Eden, and limited Snowbasin shuttle service is available to guests staying at specific properties.
Both Powder Mountain, with its long-lasting powder stashes, and Snowbasin,which hosted the 2002 Olympic Downhill and Super G events, have been an insider’s secret that have gained national recognition in the past couple of years and are regularly mentioned in SKI Magazine's Reader Resort Survey.
The area has unsurpassed natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and a wide variety of outdoor activities in all seasons. Winter recreation includes downhill/cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snow kiting, and snowshoeing. Swimming, boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, kayaking, horseback riding--as well as golfing on the Wolf Creek Utah Golf Course--round out leisure activities during the rest of the year.
The Valley towns of Eden, Liberty, and Huntsville have a small town community spirit. Fourth of July festivities at Huntsville and Liberty, and the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival held in summer, are a treat for both visitors and locals alike. The Valley also hosts the Ogden Marathon, Xterra Utah Off-Road Triathlon Championship, and Ogden Valley Triathlon during the spring and summer while Snowbasin hosts a stop on the Winter Dew Tour--a national skiing and 'boarding event.
Ogden is just minutes from the Valley--via a scenic drive through the Ogden Canyon--and offers a wider variety of restaurants, entertainment, and shopping. Just an hour from the Salt Lake City International Airport and all that a big city has to offer, the Ogden Valley is truly a place to get away from it all!
